Welcome!

Decorating isn't just about making things pretty, it's about creating a retreat to escape to at the end of the day. 

From the time I was little - decorating Barbie's Dream House with wallpaper from sample books and carpet and tile samples I had asked a local flooring store for - I have had a passion for design. Recently I even came across an old Barbie couch that I had "reupholstered" with some fabric and safety pins. Apparently I knew, even at the age of 7, that you could change what you have into something beautiful with a little DIY!

In 2011, my husband and I purchased a fixer-upper. Perched atop a hill in Indiana, Pa., the house was built in 1924 and needed some love. My heart started beating fast the moment we walked into the house because I could see all of its great potential. Luckily my husband was as open-minded as me and fell in love with all of her charms, too! We have spent the last few years feathering our nest and the house on the hill has turned into our beautiful home.  

Welcome into my home as I share a bit of our journey, some before and afters, a little DIY and - hopefully - show you that it's not just Barbie who can have the Dream House!

WHY FIREFLY HILL?

One warm summer night shortly after we had moved in, my husband took me out to the back yard to show me all the fireflies. How romantic, right?!! I will never forget that night. There must have been thousands of them. It was like Mother Nature's light show! 

ABOUT ME

I graduated in 2005 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My first field of study was interior design before switching majors to journalism and religious studies. I work at the Indiana Gazette, where, among other things, I get to design pages and share great feature stories on design and entertaining with our readers.
